Performers: Beth Taylor, Gordon Abercrombie
Song 129, volume 2
The tune for this song is the Gaelic air ‘An Gille Dubh’, which possibly reached Burns during his Highland tour.
This was one of the gems we found in choosing material for the project. It’s not a well known Burns song, but ought to be better known. This reminded our performers of a renaissance love song, and so we decided to just sing it with a guitar accompaniment. Gordon improvised this from the printed voice and bass lines in the Scots Musical Museum.
