The Rantin Dog, The Daddie O’t – Davidona Pittock
Performed by Davidona Pittock

There is some debate about the subject of this song. Burns revealed that it was addressed ‘to a young girl, a very particular acquaintance of mine, who was at that time under a cloud’. However the identity of the young girl could either be Elizabeth Paton, with whom Burns had a child, or his wife to be, Jean Armour. James Johnson first published this song in the Scots Musical Museum (1790).
